On Janurary 19th the Athletic's cross-country competition was held in the Beleek Track, Ballina.  This event is always held before the Track and Field competitions so it was a good place for our athletes to warm up.  There were 8 categories in total - Minor, Junior, Inter and Senior in both Boys and Girls.  In total we had 21 athletes representing our school.  Approximately twenty other schools took part, this was significantly higher than last year as Drumshanbo are now participating in the Sligo, Mayo, Leitrim division.   

Minor Boys:  This race was 1500m in length and Drumshanbo had six participants including: Ciaran Mattujnssens, Daniel Egan, Shane Berine, Mark Gunning, Fintan Kane and David Coyle. 

Junior Girls:  This race was 1500m long and we had two representatives participating, Rebecca Wynne and Aisling Heeran. 

Junior Boys:  The length of this race was 3000m and had six boys who bravely faced the challange.  Kevin Beirne, Danial O'Connor, Martin Beirne, Padraig Gallagher, Rian Harding and Dylan Mc Gowan.    

Inter Boys: This race was a stagerring 4500m long and the school was represented by Wayne Gunning, Gary Glynn, Eoghan Cullen, Philip Mc Tiernan, Jason Loftus, Seamie Mc Morrow and Mathew Cholerton. 

Each category was strongly represented by every school and our competitors put up a very good effort on an extremely hard track.   Unfortunately our representatives lost out on qualifing for the next round, however the "track and field" is yet to come and our participants are only warming up.
